Pacific Corrugated Pipe Company Earns NCSPA “Project of the Year” Award
The National Corrugated Steel Pipe Association (NCSPA), our industry’s major steel pipe trade association, recently awarded Pacific Corrugated Pipe Company the distinct recognition of 2020 Project of the Year. Our project was part of a $58 million Caltrans road expansion and improvement of an 8-mile stretch of the Lake 29 expressway.
What made this project so unique is that it utilized such a wide array of corrugated metal products (dimensions, lengths, material type and gauges). It even included Lake County’s first ever “critter crossing.” Never heard of a critter crossing before? Well, it’s a large CMP structure that is used to allow wildlife to safely cross underneath a busy roadway.
So, the primary purpose of this project was not only to increase the safety of all car passengers but to ensure the safety of the amazing wildlife in the area. Passenger safety was accomplished by expanding the two-lane expressway to a four-lane expressway. Also, the addition of expanded shoulders and a large grassy median created much needed added space between vehicles.
This project was the largest highway project in Lake County in 50 years and consisted of approximately 150 tons of steel in the form of 8” through 36” pipe as well as a 38 ton 11’ x 13’x 260’ structural plate assembly. Our CMP was used primarily for the drainage of the roadways as well as draining from the new slopes created during the expansion.
Pacific Corrugated Pipe Company was proud to provide the solution for a project that offers a life-saving design for many decades to come. Not only will the lives of humans be enhanced but the lives of our furry friends will be enhanced as well. A win-win all the way around.
